Working Overtime To Figure Out Overtime

For months the White House has been attempting to peddle the so-called “FairPay Overtime Initiative” as a step to “simplify” overtime rules.
Interesting that with these simple rules, the Department of Labor has set up a web page to help people understand them, complete with guides and “training” videos.
Moreover, based on the sample coverage I’ve seen today, hardly anyone in the news media appears to understand how the new regulations apply.

  1. We’re planning to do a story at my station today explaining the new rules, but I’m not sure it’s possible. More than anything, we won’t know who’s affected until employers interpret the rule changes themselves.
    Bottom line:
All hourly employees are eligible for overtime.
All salary employees who make less than $455/week ($23,660/year) are eligible for overtime.
All salary employees who make over $100,000 are not eligible for overtime.
All other employees are subject to interpretation. Some are cut-and-dry. For instance, First Responders are eligible and teachers are not. Others are a little less clear.

  2. yeah, im pretty sure overtime is the shit cause it gives me more money for buying things that i believe that i need to make it through a day filled with shit that people throw at me, so yeah, go overtime thingy.
