Vounteer State Blogging Balkinization

Thus far South Knox Bubba has done a good job of keeping Tennessee bloggers unified under the Rocky Top Brigade banner. But now I’m getting a whiff of Volunteer State factionalism in the air.
Bill Hobbs is calling for Nashville bloggers. Meanwhile, Brock at Dark Bilious Vapors is working on a fancy icon for Memphian bloggers.
What could this mean? Might we be headed toward a contentious civil war blogging supremecy? And what about the Knoxville bloggers? And the south of Knox wannabes? Are the K-Towners going to be left in disorganized obscurity while the sister cities coalesce?
Stay tuned.

  1. Well, I don’t read Hobbs (I think he’s an idiot), so I don’t know what he’s up to.
One thing to keep in mind is that Mike Hollihan is the demented yet lovable genius behind both the Memphis Blogger icon (Brock, my partner in crime, was just offering some constructive criticism of the icon design) and the periodic Memphis Blogger’s Bashes (Memphis bloggers get together to eat, drink and be merry) I suspect that the Memphis Blogger initiative is less a Volunteer State balkanization and more a way of keeping a handle on who in Memphis is blogging so we can make sure we get them to come to the next Blogger’s Bash.
I have no doubt that any of our Volunteer State Blogging Brethren would be more than welcome to show up at a Memphis Blogger’s Bash if they happened to be in the area when one happened. And I (for one) wouldn’t even require them to buy a round for the rest of us. Though it would be nice… *hint, hint*

  2. Apropos of Brock and Mike Hollihan (Hi, Mike!)..

Meanwhile, the Hollihan-Sides discussions sparked a bit of concern on the part of Brian Arner over at Resonance…

  3. Yeah, I think they used to have get-togethers around here too, before my time. Either that or I’ve been excluded from the invitation list. 8^0

  4. Hi Brian. Yeah, I designed that icon just so folks who blog about or live near or came from or just plain like Memphis could identify themselves. Anyone’s welcome to use it — even you Eastern Grand Division hillbillies. 😉
It’s not at all about supplanting the RTB but creating another layer of community. At some point, I plan to link the image (if folks want to) to a page listing all the Memphis blogs I can find. It’s sort of an ongoing project of mine. It’s not balkanisation, it’s community building.
    Thanks for noticing!

  5. At the informal Nashville blogger bash in December, it was me and 4 attractive female bloggers. Nashville is better, for that reason alone.

  6. it was me and 4 attractive female bloggers
Hey, I could go for that. How about holding the next Nashville bash in Knoxville?
