So Coca Cola unveils a new Coca-Cola C2, “with half the carbohydrates, calories and sugar of regular cola, and “all the great taste” of Coca-Cola.
Seems to me if you are really worried about the above, you’d drink Diet Coke.

Ah… but remember, it’s not the product, it’s the packaging that sells. People may not realize that Diet Coke is a low carb alternative… but if you sell Coca-Cola C2 as a low-carb alternative it may have a better chance of success. It would also not have the same stigmas attached to diet soda…
Diabetics have been counting carbs for decades, long before fad diets. They know all about Diet Coke. It sucks. The stuff they use for sweetening is bad for you, too. They will rejoice at the introduction of C2, and will be customers long after the lo-carb diet fad is over. Which will be soon as people start to wise up that a balanced diet with fewer calories and more exercise is how you lose weight, not gimmick diets that are bad for you. I just hope they figure out how to make Slurpees out of the stuff.
I will NOT drink Diet Coke because it tastes horrible. Now, if this C2 stuff DOES taste like the real thing, I will be very happy!
It pains me to find myself in disagreement with SKB, but as a diabetic (diagnosed since ’95) I’ve been drinking Diet Coke for years, and it’s my favorite soft drink. It’s Diet Pepsi that is rank swill that’s unfit for pigs (Pepsi One is acceptable, but I don’t see that around anymore). 🙂 Of course, in the Best Of All Possible Worlds I could drink The Real Thing without concern, but it’s not the best of possible worlds.
I can’t find nutrition info for C2, yet, but by my calculations, Diet Coke with 0g of carbs is still going to be better for my glycemic control than C2 which will have almost 20g of carbs (assuming a 12 oz. portion size, and that C2 has half the carbs of Coke classic, which is 39g carbs per 12 oz.). We won’t know for sure until I can suck down a C2 in one hand while using my blood glucose meter on the other, though. If C2 tastes significantly better than Diet Coke and doesn’t spike my blood sugar too terribly badly, I can see going for it.
As for aspartame being “bad for you”, I’m not convinced of that. Aspartame is known to cause problems for those who are sensitive to it, but there is a significant tin-foil hat brigade out there spreading a lot of disinformation on the topic.
Lose weight and you wont be diabetic.. stop eating crap.
