RTB: Bound by a "NATO" Pact?

Some marketing outfit recently threatened to sue Justene at Calblog for comments made at this post. As a result, fellow Bear Flag League bloggers have come to her defense under the theory that "when one is attacked, all are attacked."

This prompts my question: Does the Rocky Top Brigade have a similar NATO-style common defense strategy? As South Knox Bubba has noted, we have a number of lawyers in our ranks. And heaven knows, with all these blogs we can sure generate a lot of noise, if prompted.

Unfortunately, with the recent spate of blog-related legal threats, this issue isn't as hypothetical as it once seemed. Moreover, those of us un-American types who tend to question what's going on in the world these days also have Big Brother to worry about.

We have a lot of armed people too :)

I guess that might come in handy in the event of a physical attack--especially for us unarmed types. There should be a secret SOS alert, which will summon the RTB defenders. Or will a simple "HELP" suffice?

Unless the RTB sues the Bear Flag league (in which was I'd be conflicted), I'm happy to help in either event.

Andrew, I'm not sure about dual blog alliance allegiance. If the RTB comes under fire, you're either with us, or against us. There will be no Switzerlands. 8^)

Well, the "T"-Signal is in place on top of Ayres Hall, so if one night you see a Big Orange "T" shining in the sky, you'll know we need to circle the wagons...

If we get into an armed conflict with any other blogging society, I'm sure we'll have an advantage... unless, perhaps, if there is some Texas blogging society.

Brian: as a founding member of BFL, I don't lose any sleep over Andrew's dual allegiance. I don't think you guys should, either. BFL comes in peace, so unless you guys are planning on invading California, the risk of a blogwar erupting between the two alliances is as good as nil. All Andrew's dual allegiance means is that if both groups a NATO rule, an attack on any member of either alliance will be construed as an attack on Andrew, and therefore, on all members of both alliances. Deal?

CJ, I ain't worried about no Texans. We already went down there once and bailed them out against that Santa Anna fellow. Besides, we can shoot straighter because squirrels are a lot smaller targets than jackalopes.

Xrlq, as founder and maintainer of the RTB blogroll, I accept your proposal for a nonagression and mutual defense pact. We salute your fine outfit and proclaim it a great day for the Blogosphere. May no blog dare ever tread on the BFL or the RTB lest he or she as the case may be suffer the right mighty wrath and furious vengeance of both.

Excellent. I've proposed it for ratification. It's a great day for the Blogsophere indeed, and a crappy day for anyone who would (*&^ with it.

One BFL member raised an interesting question: if RTB adopts the NATO rule, does that obligate all RTB members (and, by extension, BFL members as well) to side with the Puppy Blender against the Alliance of Free Blogs? Or can Glenn go it alone in that fight, with NATO-style protection applying everywhere else?

I am a member of the Bear Flag League and can attest that mutual support goes as far as you want it.

Not having the legal expertise to back up CalBlog's situation and wanting to avoid any retribution to my site, I simply posted my reactions to the situation, pointed people to the appropriate blog posts and asked readers to do as they saw fit...assuming that would be to get stomping mad.
