The powers that be in New York <a title=\"Forbidden Photos, Anyone?\" href=\"http:\/\/villagevoice.com\/issues\/0423\/haber.php\">proposed a ban<\/a> on general photography on <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nycsubway.org\/photoban.html\">subways<\/a> and buses.  Meta-Roj blog has <a href=\"http:\/\/www.rojisan.com\/blog\/2004\/06\/check_your_camera_you_might_be_a_terrorist.html\">more details<\/a> and examples of potential terrorism.<br \/>\nI can kind of buy bans on aerial photography of nuclear installations and that type of thing.  But banning pictures of the <i>subway<\/i>?  And <i>buses<\/i>?  A would-be terrorist can research those public places any time he or she wants.  No need to take photos.  Is the government trying to pull a joke on us?<br \/>\nI&#8217;m not sure what the current status of this proposal is.  It <a href=\"http:\/\/www.mta.nyc.ny.us\/nyct\/rules\/rules.htm\">hasn&#8217;t been enacted<\/a> . . . at least not yet.  Don&#8217;t know if it was dropped or just tabled for now.<br \/>\nThis is another government restriction not intended to actually make the public safer, but rather to make people <i>think<\/i> the government is making them safer.
