{"id":1545,"date":"2005-03-16T14:43:34","date_gmt":"2005-03-16T19:43:34","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.brianarner.com\/weblog\/wordpress\/2005\/03\/no_timetable\/"},"modified":"2005-03-16T14:43:34","modified_gmt":"2005-03-16T19:43:34","slug":"no_timetable","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.brianarner.com\/weblog\/2005\/03\/no_timetable\/","title":{"rendered":"No Timetable"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a title=\"Bush: No Timetable for Troops Coming Home\" href=\"http:\/\/www.guardian.co.uk\/uslatest\/story\/0,1282,-4870192,00.html\">This<\/a> clears matters up:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>President Bush said Wednesday he understands the desire of U.S. coalition partners to withdraw troops from Iraq, but he declined to set a timetable for bringing American forces home and said he hoped others would also stay the course.<br \/>\n&#8220;Our troops will come home when Iraq is capable of defending herself,&#8221; Bush told reporters.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>In other words, &#8220;not anytime soon.&#8221;<br \/>\nPresumably <strike>if<\/strike> when some sort of stable Iraqi government is erected, we&#8217;ll be able to reduce the American force down somewhere below the 100,000 troop level.  But irrespective of Iraq&#8217;s ability to &#8220;defend herself,&#8221; we&#8217;re going to have bases and troops there for years to come.
