I conducted a survey during the first 15 minutes and here&#8217;s what I found:<br \/>\nMSNBC: missing white girl<br \/>\nCNNHN:  missing white girl<br \/>\nFNC:  missing white girl<br \/>\nCNN and its rebel program directors covered the purportedly at-large London terrorists.  I&#8217;m not sure why it devoted the first 15 minutes to a <i>London<\/i> story (it might be a different case if suspects were running around in Philadelphia), but at least it gets points for covering news.<br \/>\nWith all due respect to missing white girl, by my count her disappearance affects only the people who knew her before she was lost.  Meanwhile, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2005\/07\/29\/politics\/29cafta.html?ex=1280289600&#038;en=f98741c496bcf493&#038;ei=5090&#038;partner=rssuserland&#038;emc=rss\">a trade deal<\/a> which could have a direct impact on the lives of millions of American workers goes largely unnoticed on TV news.<br \/>\nGranted, a trade deal isn&#8217;t nearly as sexy as a story as a missing &#8220;graduate,&#8221; but you&#8217;d think a few producers might use some editorial discretion in determining what is most <i>newsworthy<\/i>.<br \/>\nYou&#8217;d think wrong.<br \/>\nSpeaking of CAFTA, isn&#8217;t <a href=\"http:\/\/www.talkingpointsmemo.com\/archives\/week_2005_07_24.php#006184\">this<\/a> a curious story?<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<a href=\"http:\/\/www.brianarner.com\/weblog\/2005\/07\/whats_happening\/\" rel=\"bookmark\" title=\"Permalink to What&#8217;s Happening?\"><p>One might think the answer to this could be found during the 10 p.m. TV news channel broadcasts.
