{"id":2036,"date":"2006-07-27T11:24:18","date_gmt":"2006-07-27T15:24:18","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.brianarner.com\/weblog\/wordpress\/2006\/07\/thats_not_going_to_be_good_for\/"},"modified":"2006-07-27T11:24:18","modified_gmt":"2006-07-27T15:24:18","slug":"thats_not_going_to_be_good_for","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.brianarner.com\/weblog\/2006\/07\/thats_not_going_to_be_good_for\/","title":{"rendered":"That&#8217;s Not Going To Be Good For Cycling"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>It almost seemed too good to be true: An American with a bad hip overcoming an eight minute deficit to win the Tour de France.<br \/>\nIt <a title=\"Tour winner fails drugs test\" href=\"http:\/\/www.timesonline.co.uk\/article\/0,,28910-2288224,00.html\">looks like it was<\/a>:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Floyd Landis, the winner of this year&#8217;s Tour de France, has tested positive for a banned substance, according to his Phonak team.<br \/>\n. . .<br \/>\nAccording to sources in France, the rider concerned is said to have tested positive for testosterone after last Thursday&#8217;s stage through the Alps to Morzine, which was won, after a 130-kilometre solo breakaway, by Landis who went on to secure overall victory in the Tour, which finished in Paris on Sunday.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>This news comes to a Tour that had already been plagued by drug scandal when several big-name riders were disqualified from participating.  It&#8217;s going to be tough overcoming this black eye.<br \/>\nUPDATE:  As commenters note <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bikeforums.net\/showthread.php?t=214334\">here<\/a>, the test reportedly failed isn&#8217;t a conclusive finding that Landis is guilty.  There&#8217;s apparently another test and some sort of appeals process.
