Susan Cain provides an 18-minute fix in this <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ted.com\/talks\/susan_cain_the_power_of_introvertshttp:\/\/\" target=\"_blank\">2012 TED Talk<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/c0KYU2j0TM4\" width=\"560\" height=\"315\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>Cain makes a couple interesting points about society:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>There was a notable cultural shift toward extroversion during the 20th century<\/li>\n<li>Our institutions (schools, workplaces, churches, etc.) tend to be designed to create an atmosphere which extroverts thrive in<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Cain concludes with the following call to action:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Stop requiring constant group work<\/li>\n<li>Everyone should go to &#8220;the wilderness&#8221;&#8211;i.e., unplug from the world and for some introspective time<\/li>\n<li>Everyone&#8211;introverts in particular&#8211;needs to occasionally open up and share with the world their energy, passion, and joy<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>We need to have a national conversation on introversion.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<a href=\"http:\/\/www.brianarner.com\/weblog\/2014\/06\/introversion-in-an-outgoing-culture\/\" rel=\"bookmark\" title=\"Permalink to Introversion In An Outgoing Culture\"><p>As someone clearly camped on the introverted side of the personality spectrum, I&#8217;m always down with &#8220;the world doesn&#8217;t understand us introverts&#8221; discussion.
