{"id":564,"date":"2004-02-02T05:32:40","date_gmt":"2004-02-02T10:32:40","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.brianarner.com\/weblog\/wordpress\/2004\/02\/wake_up_democrats\/"},"modified":"2004-02-02T05:32:40","modified_gmt":"2004-02-02T10:32:40","slug":"wake_up_democrats","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.brianarner.com\/weblog\/2004\/02\/wake_up_democrats\/","title":{"rendered":"Wake Up Democrats!"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Despite not having done squat in Tennessee until a  couple weeks ago, a new <a href=\"http:\/\/www.tennessean.com\/elections\/2004\/ssiboxes\/04\/presidentialpoll.html\">Mason-Dixon poll<\/a> shows that Senator Kerry leads in Tennessee:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>John Kerry  31%<br \/>\nWesley Clark  22%<br \/>\nJohn Edwards  13%<br \/>\nHoward Dean  7%<br \/>\nJoe Lieberman  6%<br \/>\nAl Sharpton  3%<br \/>\nDennis Kucnich  &#8212;<br \/>\nUndecided  18%<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>So what accounts for Kerry&#8217;s surge to the top?  Apparently all the undecideds are taking their marching orders from the media, which has coronated Kerry the inevitable nominee.<br \/>\nWhat might a Kerry victory <a href=\"http:\/\/www.tennessean.com\/elections\/2004\/archives\/04\/01\/46258024.shtml?Element_ID=46258024\">mean for the Democratic ticket in November<\/a>?<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>[Mason-Dixon pollster Brad] Coker said he doubted Kerry could keep up with Bush in Tennessee as the November election neared, saying Southerners Clark and Edwards might be more competitive.<br \/>\n&#8221;Tennesseans are more likely to vote for Bush than a New England Democrat,&#8221; said Coker. Kerry is a senator from Massachusetts. Coker noted that the state usually votes Republican and that Bush beat Tennessee son Al Gore in 2000.<br \/>\n&#8221;What we&#8217;re seeing with Kerry on top is that he&#8217;s the flavor of the week,&#8221; Coker said. &#8221; &#8230; We&#8217;ll have to wait to see if he&#8217;s the flavor of the month.&#8221;<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>I don&#8217;t have major issues with Kerry, but you can see this a mile a way.
