{"id":651,"date":"2004-02-18T03:33:05","date_gmt":"2004-02-18T08:33:05","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.brianarner.com\/weblog\/wordpress\/2004\/02\/whistleblower_sues_justice_dep\/"},"modified":"2004-02-18T03:33:05","modified_gmt":"2004-02-18T08:33:05","slug":"whistleblower_sues_justice_dep","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.brianarner.com\/weblog\/2004\/02\/whistleblower_sues_justice_dep\/","title":{"rendered":"Whistleblower Sues Justice Department"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.usatoday.com\/news\/washington\/2004-02-17-ashcroft-sued_x.htm\">These allegations<\/a>, if true, are disturbing:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>A federal prosecutor in a major terrorism case in Detroit has taken the rare step of suing Attorney General John Ashcroft, alleging the Justice Department interfered with the case, compromised a confidential informant and exaggerated results in the war on terrorism.<br \/>\nAssistant U.S. Attorney Richard Convertino of Detroit accused the Justice Department of &#8220;gross mismanagement&#8221; of the war on terrorism in a whistleblower lawsuit filed late Friday in federal court in Washington.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Exaggerating aspects of the war on terrorism&#8211;I can&#8217;t imagine a government would be compelled to do that. [\/sarcasm]<br \/>\nWhy might Convertino be ticked?<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Convertino came under internal investigation last fall after providing information to a Senate committee about his concerns about the war on terror. His testimony came just months after he helped convict some members of an alleged terrorism cell in Detroit.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>People are after him for spilling the beans.
