{"id":79,"date":"2003-10-25T16:55:58","date_gmt":"2003-10-25T20:55:58","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.brianarner.com\/weblog\/wordpress\/2003\/10\/poor_eating_habits\/"},"modified":"2003-10-25T16:55:58","modified_gmt":"2003-10-25T20:55:58","slug":"poor_eating_habits","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.brianarner.com\/weblog\/2003\/10\/poor_eating_habits\/","title":{"rendered":"Poor Eating Habits"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Reading this story on a recently-released study, you&#8217;re almost left with the impression that two-year olds do their own grocery shopping:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>&#8220;<a href=\"http:\/\/story.news.yahoo.com\/news?tmpl=story&#038;cid=541&#038;e=5&#038;u=\/ap\/20031025\/ap_on_he_me\/toddlers_bad_diets\">Study: Toddlers Have Poor Eating Habits<\/a>&#8221;<br \/>\nEven before their second birthday, many American children are developing the same bad eating habits that plague the nation&#8217;s adults&#8211;too much fat, sugar and salt and too few fruits and vegetables.<br \/>\nA new study of more than 3,000 youngsters found significant numbers of infants and toddlers are downing french fries, pizza, candy and soda.<br \/>\nChildren aged 1 to 2 years require about 950 calories per day, but the study found that the median intake for that age group is 1,220 calories, \ufffd an excess of nearly 30 percent. For those 7 months to 11 months old, the daily caloric surplus was about 20 percent.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Of course &#8220;many American children are developing the same bad eating habits that plague the nation&#8217;s adults&#8221; because the adults are establishing the toddlers eating habits, and not the other way around.
