Tennessee Lottery Numbers

Per capita amount Tennesseans spent playing the lottery run by “the best lottery director America has ever known” during the first 12 months: $147.
Comparable national average: $161.
Amount I spent on Tennessee lottery games in the past 12 months: $0.

  1. They won’t see a dime from me. What I find ironic is that the party that is supposed to help the poor man brought us the lottery so they could take from the poor man. I wonder how many lottery tickets are sold in Franklin, in comparison to East Nashville? The lottery sells poor people false hope.

  2. I did take statistics once upon a time. And as I recall the expected winnings almost always are lower than the cost of playing. Except, perhaps, when you have a really large jackpot. Say it costs $1 to play, and the odds of winning are 1 in 80,000,000. If the jackpot exceeds $80,000,000 (post tax) then it might make mathematical sense to play. Not as much sense as putting the $1 in an IRA, but at least you could attempt to rationalize the risk.
