Per police sources:
A man who committed suicide during a routine traffic stop near Milwaukee, Wisconsin, left a note claiming responsibility for killing the husband and mother of a federal judge in Chicago, police sources said Thursday.
If true, this is a bad turn for TV news. Speculation on white supremacist suspects made for a much sexier story.
Two things. Just heard on the radio that the Chicago police aren’t ready to close the books on this case just yet. Apparently the fact that the guy left a note confessing to the murders, killed himself with a gun matching the gun used in the murders, and had a law suit thrown out by the victim judge which he says cost him his home and his family and everything, well, that just isn’t quite enough evidence to be sure.
On the white supremacist guy, he got “Jeweled”. And it couldn’t have happened to a nicer buy, but still. Maybe they ought to lay off naming names of suspects until someone is actually, like, charged or something. You’re right, though, it makes for better TV.

Yes, that’s what I was getting at. This was quite similar to the incident in Maryland where a bunch of new houses where burned by arsonists. All the news reports blamed “eco-terrorists”–until it turned out to be someone else.
