President Bush, on the “War on Terror”:
Yesterday:
So long as I’m the President, we will stay, we will fight, and we will win the war on terror.
When asked “Can we win?” the war on terror, Bush said, “I don’t think you can win it. But I think you can create conditions so that the — those who use terror as a tool are — less acceptable in parts of the world.”
I’m not sure how you define “winning” this so-called war, but I think Bush was closer to the mark the first time around. There’s always going to be terrorists, especially now that we’ve stirred things up in the Middle East and Arabia. About the best thing we can do is to disrupt their organization and, through security measures, minimize the chance they will pull off a successful strike.
All this talk about “finishing jobs” and bringing everyone to justice [where’s Osama?] is just a PR exercise.
